The Gaming Menu for March 2017

Here in Texas winter is quickly thawing and with it so too does the gaming market heat up. March features a console launch along with a solid list of AAA titles to see you through the end of slush.

Nintendo Switch

March 3rd

Finally. This is it. The launch of Nintendo’s newest console hits at the start of the month. I won’t be picking one up at launch (more on that tomorrow), but I’ll be rooting for a successful launch all the same. The Switch’s launch lineup has a little bit of everything, but a few games stand out to me:

  • 1-2-Switch
  • Super Bomberman R
  • and…

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

March 3rd

Every time I think about this game I feel a sense of calm come over me and I swear I hear angels sing. That’s what can happen when a new game in your favorite series is released. Given the scale of Breath of the Wild shown off in early videos, I’m preparing to let this game consume my gaming life for the foreseeable future.

MLB: The Show 17

March 28th

As if a new Zelda game wasn’t enough, baseball’s opening day is tantalizingly close. Nothing marks its arrival like MLB: The Show. A sports game you can always count on to show a marked annual improvement; it’s the only sports game I will continuously pick up. Oh, and this year’s game heavily features 90’s Baseball God Ken Griffey Jr. and a retro mode, for which I am always a sucker. Play ball.

Mass Effect: Andromeda

March 21

I skipped the 3rd entry of Mass Effect after reading up on the lackluster finish to the story, Andromeda might be enough to pull me back in though. Combat looks greatly improved, with greatly enhanced movement abilities, and a wide variety of enemy types. A built-up set of RPG features could turn Andromeda into the sci-fi equivalent of Witcher III.
